Days after the gruesome murder of an RSS worker and his family in West Bengal’s Murshidabad, a BJP leader has been shot dead in the state by “unidentified miscreants”, ANI has reported.

The incident is said to have happened in the Nadia district of the state and the victim has been identified as 55-year-old Harala Debnath. He was a local leader of the BJP.

On Friday night (11 October), Debnath who owned a grocery shop stepped out after closing his enterprise when he was shot by two individuals.

As per BJP District President Dr Manobendra Roy, the two assailants had arrived at the shop to buy some snacks and after making the purchase, shot Debnath in presence of his wife.

Debnath was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly could not be saved. The BJP later staged a protest demanding the arrest of the accused and investigation is said to be underway.

Roy has alleged Trinamool Congress’ hand in connection with the incident.
