Brookings’ study Global Metro Monitor 2018 has ranked Delhi in the sixth position in a list of the fastest and best performing metro areas in the world. Other notable Indian entries are Hyderabad, which was ranked 14th in the list and the financial capital Mumbai which stood at the 23rd position.
According to the study, the per capita GDP in Delhi grew by 6.6 per cent over the period 2014-16 with the city also generating jobs for 6.21 lakh people which represented a 4.7 per cent growth. The rankings were headed by the Irish capital Dublin which witnessed a per capita GDP growth of 21.2 per cent over the two year period under consideration.
China however dominated the overall rankings with a whopping 17 cities figuring in the top 30 fastest and best-growing cities thus underlying the continuing growth momentum in the world’s second-largest economy.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
