Delhi University (DU) has approved the implementation of the Centre's ambitious National Education Policy (NEP) at its executive council meeting which was held on Tuesday (31 August), reports Economic Times.
The executive council is the highest decision-making body of the DU.
According to DU's Registrar Vikas Gupta, the implementation of NEP will begin from the 2022-23 academic session.
The executive council has also approved the implementation of a four-year undergraduate programme in DU. It also approved a multiple entry/exit scheme (MEES), where students will be able to enter and exit the programme at various stages, and the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC).
Meanwhile, it should also be noted that three members of the executive council had dissented against the implementation of NEP in DU. The Delhi Teachers' Association (DUTA) also held an online protest against NEP implementation.
The NEP had received the Union Cabinet's approval on 29 July last year. It replaces the previous NEP, 1986.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
