Defending fellow Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan, Member of Parliament (MP) Dimple Yadav belittled his derogatory comments against BJP candidate Jaya Prada, terming it a ‘Chhoti baat’ (trivial matter), Times of India has reported.
Dimple, the wife of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav counter-accused the media of not reporting and highlighting derogatory remarks made by certain BJP leaders with same zeal.
Citing the incident when BJP leader Dayashankar Singh had made objectionable comments against BSP chief Mayawati, Yadav complained that the media didn't take up the issue the way it was adding fuel to the Azam Khan issue.
Yadav further urged the media to focus on bigger issues like the 'historic' welfare schemes for women launched by her husband Akhilesh Yadav when he was chief minister of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) state.
Yadav had made the comments whilst in a conference organised to announce the candidature of Poonam Sinha from Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency. Her husband Shatrughan Sinha had joined the Congress party on 6 April 2019, and he will be contesting the elections from Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, Bihar.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
