In a big boost for the construction of a grand temple of Lord Ram in the holy city of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, more than Rs 1,000 crore has been raised for the work through the nationwide donation drive, according to Champat Rai who is a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust, reports Economic Times.
Rai, who is the secretary of the trust that has been constituted to look after the construction and management of Lord Ram's temple at Ayodhya, said that people from all communities have generously donated under the fundraising campaign which was launched on 15 January.
He informed that the accounts of the trust in the three nationalised banks - State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank - show an amount of over Rs 1,000 crore.
Rai also said that nearly 1.5 lakh Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists are collecting the funds for the temple building, with 37 activists deputed to deposit the donations in three bank accounts of the trust.
