Amazon, Flipkart and other E-commerce companies will need to protect the identifiable data of consumers and also complete all refunds on returned items in two weeks, reports Moneycontrol. These are the new rules mulled in the draft guidelines issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs for protecting customers on 5 August.
The draft guidelines will mandate the E-commerce companies to ensure that the data collection, storage and usage are according to provisions of Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.
The draft guidelines direct companies to disclose details of their sellers supplying the goods and services, inclusive of identities of their businesses.
Further, the guidelines will make sure that the companies promoter, key management do not include persons convicted in any punishable criminal offence with imprisonment in the past five years.
The guidelines will be effective for the business to consumer e-commerce companies, including goods and services. The ministry has also invited views on the draft guidelines by 16 September.
