India and Russia have signed 15 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and other agreements to boost co-operation between the two countries during PM Modi’s visit to Vladivostok for the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), PTI reports.
“The India-Russia friendship is not restricted to their respective capital cities. We have put people at the core of this relationship,” PM Modi said referring to the co-operation.
The PM also said that Russia will help train Indian space travellers aboard the Gaganyaan as part of the agreements signed.
An agreement to operationalise the maritime route between Vladivostok in Russia to Chennai in India has also been reached. The route can help Indian businesses engage in activities in the Russian Far East, a resource rich but sparsely populated region.
“Last year we have shipped 3.3 million tonnes of oil to India, almost 550 thousands tons of oil products and 4.5 million tones of coal,” the Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
He also spoke on the co-operation between the two countries on the nuclear front with the Kundukulam power plant in focus. “The first two units are already operational. The work for the third and fourth unit are going as per schedule,” Putin said.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
