Silicon Valley-based Tesla Motors, known for its electric cars, might enter the Indian market this year. A user on micro-blogging site Twitter asked Musk when Tesla would launch in India, to which he replied, “ Hoping for summer this year”.
Tesla’s Model S, priced at $35,000 has been available for the Indian markets for around a year. The car will go into production in 2017 with a staggered launch in 2018. It will first be available in the United States before seeing a gradual roll out for countries that drive on the left, like India.
This is not the first time that Tesla Motors has hinted at an Indian connection. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Tesla factory in 2015, Modi and Musk were reported to have discussed the possibility of Tesla setting up a manufacturing base in India.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
