Union Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar on Friday (28 August) ripped into the Pakistan's attempt to paint itself as a victim of terrorism, reports Asian News International (ANI).

While speaking at the the 19th Darbari Seth Memorial lecture, Jaishankar took a dig at Pakistan and said that nations which have turned the production of terrorists into a primary export have attempted to paint themselves as a victim of terror.

Jaishankar acknowledged and appreciated the rise of mechanisms like Financial Action Task Force (FATF), various United Nations (UN) committees and the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate since the 9/11 and 26/11 terror attacks.

However, he also slammed Pakistan without naming it for continuing to creating hurdles in the path to the institution of Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. He asserted that UN membership still continues to wrestle with the foundational principles of the Convention.

Going all out against Pakistan, Jaishankar added that "sustained pressure through international mechanisms has eventually compelled a state complicit in aiding, abetting, training and directing terror groups and criminal syndicates to grudgingly acknowledge the presence of wanted terrorists and organised crime leaders on its territory".

He was hinting at the recent disclosure by Pakistan, acknowledging and giving details of the present status of 88 terrorists and their entities, including Dawood Ibrahim, Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed and JeM leader Masood Azhar, to the United Nations.
