The gap between Google and Facebook’s ad revenues in the crucial Indian market has reduced drastically, Financial Express has reported.
As per the report, Google officials were alarmed to learn that Facebook could earn close to $980 million in ad revenues in 2018. Google, which entered India much before Facebook has reached the $1 billion mark very recently in 2017.
Both Google and Facebook have not made official statements regarding ad revenue figures. To counter Facebook, Google is trying to attract more customers with better ad buying tools and more localised services. Google faces a tough challenge in India as consumers are gravitating towards Instagram and Facebook at the expense of Google and YouTube.
Experts believe that Facebook has an edge because of its user-friendly features and reliance on visual advertises which transcend language barriers. Pinpointing urban and rural audience is easier with Instagram and Facebook according to advertisement buyers.
According to the advertising firm Magna, Facebook and Google had 68 per cent of market share in digital advertisements in 2017. Media agency GroupM estimates digital advertising will grow by 30 per cent in India this year. Thus, both Google and Facebook will be keen to tap into the growing Indian digital advertisement market.
