A fake Covid-19 vaccine racket where the perpetrators were selling bottled saline water as Covid-19 vaccine has been busted in China, ABC News has reported.
As per the report, 3,000 doses of this fake Covid-19 vaccine have been confiscated and 80 have been arrested in police raids in cities like Beijing, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces. The criminals have been selling vials of saline water as a Covid-19 vaccine since September of last year.
The accused have been "making huge profits by fulfilling saline solution into injectors to process and make fake coronavirus vaccines and selling them at a higher price", reports said.
China has been vaccinating its populace using vaccines developed by Sinovac and Sinopharm. Sinovac has run into troubles over its low efficacy rate of just over 50 per cent and its trials were halted in Brazil due to an adverse event.
Additionally, Peru had suspended the ongoing clinical trials of a Covid-19 vaccine made by Chinese drug giant Sinopharm after detecting neurological problems in one of its test volunteers.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
