The first unit of Mahindra & Mahindra's all-new SUV Thar has been auctioned off for a stellar Rs 1.11 crore in an online auction held by the automotive major over a span of six days, a report in the Economic Times says.
The development was made public Mahindra Group's chairman Anand Mahindra on his Twitter handle. He also thanked all the bidders and stressed that it will result in a total of Rs 2.22 crore being donated towards battling COVID-19.

Mahindra will match an equivalent sum as the highest bid, and the total amount will be donated to either PM CARES fund, Naandi Foundation, or Swades Foundation to help fight COVID-19, as chosen by the winner of the auction.
The winning bid was placed in by an individual from Delhi, identified as Akash Minda. While the first unit of the car has been auctioned off for Rs 1.11 crore, the vehicle will be launched in the 10-15 lakh price range.
