Implementing the recently signed historic deal to normalise the bilateral ties between Israel and Bahrain, the two nations yesterday (18 October) officially established diplomatic relations, reports Associated Press.
The deal called "Abraham Accords" was brokered by President Donald Trump's administration and involved the United Arab Emirates along with Bahrain. The deal was signed by the involved parties at a ceremony held at the White House last month.
Officiating the diplomatic ties, a commercial flight of the Israeli El Al flight 973 flew over Saudi Arabian airspace to reach Bahrain's Manama carrying Israeli officials who signed the documents officiating the diplomatic relations, in addition to several memoranda of understanding in areas of joint cooperation.
While the normalisation of ties between Israel and Bahrain and UAE has received much backlash from Palestine, the deal has been hailed by several other quarters. However, it should also be noted that the terror group Islamic State has also attacked Bahrain, UAE and also Saudi Arabia for showing "subservience to crusaders and Jews."
