Noted scholar and former cabinet minister Arif Mohammad Khan expressed his gratitude over being appointed as the new Kerala Governor and made a profound statement over how fortunate he is to be born in India, reports ANI.

Khan a well known critic of Islamic fundamentalism and an advocate of reforms within the Muslim community called this appointment a great opportunity for him to get to know the region. He he also praised the state called it using the well known phrase “god own country”.
Khan is best known for resigning from the Rajiv Gandhi led Congress government in 1986 as a protest against it bowing down to the pressure of Muslim clerics over the Shah Bano case. A firm believer in the Indian constitution, Khan has also called for the abolition of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).
Khan had recently urged Prime Minister Modi to criminalise Triple Talaq and not make the same mistakes which Rajiv Gandhi did. The Triple Talaq was criminalised on 30 June.
