In a bid to concoct a legal strategy to stop fugitive economic offender Mehul Choksi’s extradition from Dominica to India, four lawyers have been flown into Dominica from London, reports Hindustan Times.
This gains significance as the lawyers have been flown into Dominica just days ahead of the 2 June hearing in Dominica’s Commonwealth Court of Justice which will decide on Choksi’s further course. This comes as Choksi has moved a habeas corpus plea before the said court against his extradition.
Presently, Choksi is admitted to a hospital in Dominica. He had been captured days ago in the Caribbean nation after he had been reported missing from Antigua and Barbuda.
It is believed, that the Enforcement Directorate will petition before the court that Choksi is an Indian citizen and that he should be deported to India because he is an absconder in a multi-billion dollar fraud case and also has a Red Corner Notice (RCN) from the Interpol issued against him.
