A plan for the expansion of the city’s Kempegowda International Airport worth Rs 13,000 crore has been made by Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL). The civil aviation market has been growing at a rate of 25 per cent every year, being one of the reasons to provide the massive boost to airport infrastructure, Deccan Chronicle reported.

The new plan provides for construction of a new terminal, an extra runway, more roads and internal infrastructure. Apart from the above, new multi-modal transport hub is also on the cards.

BIAL’s MD and CEO, Hari Marar, has been quoted by Deccan Chronicle as saying, “The second terminal- T2 is our dedication to this beautiful city of Bengaluru. The terminal, designed to be in a garden, will be a reflection of the city and will be built on 4 pillars: tech leadership, environmental and ecological stewardship and a celebration of Karnataka's rich heritage.”

The T2 terminal will be iconic and some of the best minds in the world are working on the design and planning, he added.

Furthermore, he said, “Over the last ten years, BLR Airport has evolved as the Gateway to South India, and with this next phase of expansion, the aim is to position our Airport as the Gateway to a New India. Once ready, the Airport will offer passengers seamless and delightful experiences, powered by cutting-edge technology.”
