A pledge targeting a 30 per cent reduction in the global methane emissions by 2030 was the highlight of the climate change conference at Glasgow on Tuesday.
Additionally, measures in order to reverse deforestation in the coming decade also drew a lot of attention at the meeting.
Currently, the pledge is only made by a group of countries and it is not a decision that has been taken by all the nations involved in the climate meeting.
Moreover, the implementation of the concerned plan of action for the same would be the individual responsibilities of the signatories.
30 per cent reduction in methane emissions can potentially prevent 0.2 degrees Celsius of temperature rise by 2050.
Similarly, more than 100 countries have signed on the pledge to arrest and reverse deforestation by 2030. India was not a signatory on either of these pledges.
However, India was the prime mover behind the couple of other initiatives launched at the climate meeting, namely: the One Sun One World One Grid and the Infrastructure for Resilient Island States (IRIS).
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi returned back to India on Tuesday after the high-profile meet in Glasgow in which bilateral talks were also held with several other leaders, Indian Express reports.
