Technology giant Google has announced the service of eSIM wireless on its latest Google Pixel product line smartphones in India, reports the Tribune India. The Google Pixel 3 will have eSIM service through Airtel and Reliance Jio carriers in India.

Google became the first smartphone vendor to support the built-in eSIMs through ‘Project Fi’. The name was later changed to Google Fi. It is a mobile virtual network operator providing call, messaging and internet services using both, cellular network and Wi-Fi. An embedded SIM lets users straight away connect to a carrier network with the just the tap of a button.

Speaking about various networks providing eSIM support on the Pixel 3, Director, Partnerships at Google, Kerrie Lenhart Hogan, said in a statement, "Sprint in the US, EE in the UK, Airtel and Reliance Jio in India, and Truphone and Gigsky in various countries will also roll out eSIM support for Pixel 3 in the coming months."

He adds, "If you're in Germany, look out for the ability to purchase Pixel 3 with eSIM functionality from Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone soon." The Google Pixel 2 was the first significant smartphone with eSIM.

"To enable a consistent and simple experience across the ecosystem, we're also creating a programme that allows Android device makers to build eSIM-capable smartphones," Google said

Users of eSIM technology can connect across various devices like the Android smartphones, Chromebooks and smartwatches in the Google ecosystem.
