Government departments will now use the e-payment mode to make a payment of over Rs 5,000 to suppliers, contractors and others. The Ministry of Finance tweeted:
Any Payment of above Rs.5,000 to Suppliers,contractors,grantee/loanee institutions etc by Govt Departments to be made now through e-Payment.

The ministry has directed all other ministries and departments to start doing the same.
The limit for e-payment earlier was Rs 10,000, which has now been brought down by half, as per the press release.
The ministry said that this step was taken to move towards achieving the “complete digitisation of government payments”.
This decision has been taken in order to attain the goal of complete digitization of Government payments.

In addition, the government has asked its employees to “take the lead” and maximise the use of debit cards “for personal related transactions instead of cash”.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
