Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday (15 May) began her third tranche of announcements pertaining to the Rs 20 lakh crore economic package under Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
She said that today's announcements would be focused on agriculture and allied services, like fisheries and food processing.
She announced launching of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana for integrated, sustainable, inclusive development of marine and inland fisheries to plug critical gaps in fisheries value chain.
Rs 11,000 crore has been allocated for Marine, inland fisheries and aquaculture, while Rs 9,000 crore has been earmarked for development of infrastructure such as fishing harbours, cold chains etc.
The move is slated to provide employment to over 55 lakh persons & double exports to Rs 1 lakh crore

She also said that to help Fisheries sector, operations of Marine Capture Fisheries and Aquaculture has been relaxed to cover Inland Fisheries.
