Dates of the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) convention have been moved to coincide with the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad, India Today has reported. The Kumbh at Allahabad is one of the largest congregation of humans on earth, be it a religious or non-religious event.
PBD 2019 is being held in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency Varanasi from 21 January to 23 January. Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the PBD 2019 convention in January with his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
“In reverence to the sentiments of the larger diaspora to participate in Kumbh Mela and Republic Day celebrations, the 15th PBD convention is being organised from 21 to 23 January 2019 instead of 9th January. The convention will be held at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh”, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
The website for the PBD 2019 was jointly inaugurated by Sushma Swaraj and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. Swaraj said that the inaugural session of the PBD would be celebrated on 9 January but the Government has decided to move the big event to a later date in order to accommodate the requests of overseas Indians.
