The phase-2 of the Ahmedabad Metro project taken up at the cost of Rs 5,384 crore is going to connect the GIFT City in Gandhinagar by the beginning of 2024.
GIFT City, located on the bank of river Sabarmati, is an integrated development on 886 acres, which houses India’s first International Financial Services Centre.
“The civil work tender for constructing the metro that extends towards GIFT City is part of the tender for constructing the metro between Motera and GNLU and GIFT CITY,” the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) official told The Indian Express.
While the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-1 is about 40.03 km, the phase-2 is approximately 28.25 km.
North-South Corridor of phase-1 with a length of 18.87 km connects Motera Stadium to APMC, and East-West Corridor of phase-1 with a length of 21.16 km connects Vastral Gaam to Thaltej Gaam.
On the other hand, the second phase also involves two elevated corridors. The first corridor begins at the Narendra Modi cricket stadium at Motera (where Phase-1 culminates) and extends northwards, connecting Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.
A 5.42 km metro rail line will branch out eastwards of this corridor at the GNLU metro station and connect GIFT City.
GMRC awarded the tender of phase-2 to Afcons Infrastructure and M/s Ranjit Buildcon.
