Gujarat: PM Modi To Lay The Foundation Stone Of 750-Bed AIIMS Rajkot On 31 December

Gujarat is set to get its first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Khandheri village in the outskirts of Rajkot city, reports Livemint.

On 31 December, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi will be laying down the foundation stone for the AIIMS, Rajkot's campus, which would come up on an area of 201 acres at a cost of Rs 1,195 crore.

The AIIMS, Rajkot campus will be built by the "Mini-Ratna" public sector undertaking HSCC Limited, and the drawings of the nine buildings to come up at the campus has already received tentative approval. The facility will be equipped with speciality and super speciality departments and boast of 750-bed capacity.

PM Modi will virtually lay the foundation stone for the project, and the ceremony will be attended by Gujarat's Chief Minister (CM) Vijay Rupani and Deputy CM Nitin Patel.

It should be noted that the academic session of the first batch of AIIMS, Rajkot was inaugurated by CM Rupani and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on 21 December. The batch comprising 50 MBBS students began their academic session at AIIMS, Rajkot's temporary campus in Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Medical College. In due course, AIIMS, Rajkot would have 125 MBBS and 60 nursing seats.
