As the counting of votes showed the Congress making major gains in Haryana on Thursday (24 October), party leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda told his cheering supporters that the party would get majority in the state.
"Congress ka bahumat ayega (Congress will get majority)," said Hooda, as counting trends indicated that the ruling BJP may not cross the half way mark.
Supporters of the former Haryana Chief Minister cheered and raised slogans of "Hooda zindabad" at his Rohtak residence.
Of the 90 seats for which elections were held, the BJP was below the halfway mark, while the Congress was seen to be gaining steadily.
