Ending a month-long elusive hunt for Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insaan, the Haryana Police today (3 October) finally arrested her, reports India Today. She was handed over to Haryana’s Panchkula Police by neighbouring Punjab’s Mohali Police. Post her father’s conviction in twin rape cases on 25 August, Honeypreet had been on the run.
Earlier today, Honeypreet had told India Today that she might consider surrendering. This prompted the Haryana Police to form a team to arrest her and other Dera Sacha Sauda leaders. The state’s police was accused of aiding her escape after a Panchkula court issued non-bailable warrants against her. She has so far evaded the uniforms six times.
Following her father’s arrest, there was major rioting in the city of Panchkula. Honeypreet was named among the 43 ‘most-wanted’ fugitives by the Haryana Police. When the police was unable to find her, rumours surfaced that she had fled to Nepal.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
