The Himalayan Railway (DHR) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has partnered with digital payment giants Paytm, Economic Times reports.

DHR along with Paytm have initiated a QR-code based ticketing system for their joyrides. Accordingly, DHR tourists can book tickets for the toy trains on the Paytm application itself for their journey.

DHR has thus become the first toy train operator in India to authorise digital ticketing systems.

Hence, commuters will be able book their tickets without being physically present at the railway stations. They can then show their digital tickets to the ticket collector to begin their journey.

This new mechanism will cut down the ticket booking time and Economic Times reports that it will help in maintaining the social distancing norms amidst the pandemic.

DHR has been operating several toy train rides like New Jalpaiguri-Darjeeling passenger train, Jungle Tea Safari and Red Panda amongst others to promote tourism in the region.

DHR is also organising the Ghum Festival from 13th November-5th December this year in order to recharge the tourism industry in Darjeeling.
