A Hindu man was reportedly assaulted in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut on Monday (15 May) for accompanying two Muslim female colleagues to a market.
The youth, who reportedly works in the same company where the two girls work, was held by the collar by some miscreants.
They also scolded the girls for accompanying a Hindu boy. Further, they also took off the Girls' hijab (a scarf used to cover the face), and forced them to disclose their identity and fathers' names.
A video of the incident went viral on social media.
This comes amid the nationwide debate surrounding the movie, The Kerala Story, which focuses on the concept of 'Love Jihad'.
In the video, one of the accused inquired, "What kind of friend is he? How can you (girls) befriend a Hindu?", reports Deccan Herald.
The youth was report heard saying that the girls were his colleagues and they were together in the market for some shopping.
The attackers repeatedly asked for the youth's name during the assault.
Following the viral spread of a video, the police in Meerut registered a case and apprehended one of the assaulters after identifying him from the footage. A senior official revealed that efforts were underway to capture the remaining suspects involved in the crime.
