In a bid to aid Italy, the second worst-hit nation by Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), India sent aboard a special Air India flight aid materials to assist the authorities and the people of the European nation to fight the pandemic, reports WION.
Acknowledging the friendly and humanitarian gesture, the Foreign Ministry of Italy issued a statement expressing gratitude to the government of India. The statement read, “We are grateful for the friendship and generosity in this time of need.”
The Indian aid to Italy comes as the death toll in the nation on account of COVID-19 has surpassed 5,000 mark.
It should be noted that last month India had also airlifted to China as much as 15 tonnes of aid materials, consisting of masks, gloves and medical equipment. The aid materials were flown to the epicentre of the pandemic, Wuhan city in China’s Hubei province in an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-17 flight.
Meanwhile, India has also provided support to Bhutan and Maldives in these trying times. India has also committed to helping Nepal navigate the rough tides introduced by the pandemic.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
