In the already crowded video streaming services market, India-based media company IN10 Media has announced that it will launch its new subscription-based documentary streaming platform DocuBay for India and the world in July, reports Mint.
"In the entire space of factual entertainment, documentaries are somewhere the step-child. They have never really got the attention and spotlight they deserve, though there is a lot of short-format factual content on social media and general entertainment platforms offer it as one of the many things they do," said Akul Tripathi DocuBay's chief operating officer (COO).
With a focus on the English-speaking population across the world, Docubay will stream 40-50 documentaries at its launch. Subsequently, the startup aims to add one film to its offerings each day, across categories like nature, action, travel, culture, and science.
To cater to wider audiences, Docubay will also dub its documentaries in regional languages. On its website, the company states that inspired by the idea of the world being One Tribe, it will feature directors around the globe.
"Nobody really focuses on documentaries as such, and we realized this was a global phenomenon when we started. We think there is a big space for it because there is talent out there making it and people watching it but no dedicated platform. And that is where DocuBay sets in," added Tripathi.
It should be noted over-the-top (OTT) streaming heavyweights like Netflix, Amazon and Hotstar also stream documentaries on their platforms.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
