The Indian Air Force (IAF) will showcase the multi-role capability of its light combat aircraft Tejas during the Vayushakti 2019 exercise, Zee News has reported.

This exercise will take place on 16 February at Pokhran air to ground armament range near Jaisalmer.

Tejas the light weight multi-role fighter integrates various technologies like relaxed static stability, fly-by-wire flight control system, advanced avionics, multi-mode radar and modern weapons.

It is armed with air to air and air to surface precision guided and standoff weaponry. It is capable of flying up to 50,000 feet.

During the exercise the aircraft will showcase its capabilities including firing an air to air R-73 missile and an air to ground Griffin missile.

Also taking part in the exercise will be the Jaguar, Sukhoi Su-30MKI and medium-lift attack helicopter Mi-17 V5.

This exercise has been described as vital for operators, planners and the leadership by the Indian Air Force. This also gives an opportunity to the IAF to operate in real-time scenarios comparable to the battlefield.
