Indian Railways is setting up a dedicated freight village (DFV) at the strategic junction of the Eastern and the Western Corridors of Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) Corporation.

The DFV with all modern facilities will be set up at the cost of around Rs 540 crore.

The DFV will be established near the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA), which will have a capacity to serve around 1.2 crore passengers a year and work on it is scheduled to be completed by 2024.

Proximity to NIA can boost the success of DFV as the upcoming airport is conceptualised with an integrated multi-modal cargo hub. The dedicated cargo terminal at NIA, also called Jewar airport, will have a 20 lakh metric tonne capacity in the first few years, which will be expanded to 80 lakh metric tonne.

“The proposed DFV, in fact, would be like a type of multi-modal transport hub and will be creating more employment opportunities for the residents of surroundings by giving a boost to foreign freights also,” an official told The New Indian Express.

The DFV is being planned at the intersection of both Eastern and Western DFCs. The Eastern DFC starting from Sahnewal near Ludhiana (Punjab), will pass through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, to terminate at Dankuni in West Bengal.

The Western Corridor connecting Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in Mumbai will traverse through the states of UP, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
