Indians Spend Over Two Hours Commuting To Work Daily; Chennai Travels Fastest, Mumbai And Bengaluru Slowest: Report

With over two hours on the road every day, Indians spend more time in daily office commute than most of the countries, The News Minute reports.

A report from MoveInSync Technology Solution reveals that on average, Indians spend 7 per cent of their day in travelling to the office with an average speed of less than three minutes per kilometre.

The report titled ‘Travel Time Report Q1 2019 vs Q1 2018’ collected data from rides on the MoveInSync platform across major cities Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi NCR and Mumbai. The average travel speed to cover one kilometre across the six cities in 2 minutes 26 seconds.

The report found that office commute in Chennai was the fastest at a speed of 25.7 kmph and Bengaluru and Mumbai was the slowest with an average commute speed of 18.7 kmph and 18.5 kmph. Hyderabad and Delhi-NCR travelled at 21.2 kmph and 20.6 kmph respectively.

Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Pune saw a decrease in the average one-way distance travelled by an office commuter in Q1 2019 when compared to Q1 2018.

The report also found Monday to be the worst day to travel in the week in all of the six cities with the average one-way commute time. Commuters in Bengaluru take the least time to reach office on Tuesday, and commuters in Chennai and Hyderabad get to work fastest on Friday.
