The Indian Premier League 2019 edition is set to overtake the 2018 edition’s overall viewership after just four weeks of commencement, Mint reports.
The information was made public by the season’s official broadcaster Star India, which revealed Broadcasting Audience Research Agency (BARC) data showing that a total of 411 million viewers watched games in the first four weeks of the current edition, compared to last year’s tournament total of 414 million.
Star TV also disclosed that IPL 2019 television viewership delivered an average of 28.2 million impressions per match in the first four weeks and hence recorded a 16 per cent growth over last year.
The weekly BARC data (13 April to 19 April) reveals Star Sports Hindi recording 1.04 million impressions to emerge as the most watched channel across all genres. Among others, female viewership- above 15 years has also seen an increase of 15 per cent to reach 10.1 million, up from 8.8 million per match in 2018.
On the other hand, male 15+ viewership per match has risen to 13.6 million per match, an increase of 13 per cent over the previous edition.
The viewership is all set to increase with the contention of teams qualifying for playoffs getting tighter with every match played. The tournament finals would be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on 12 May.
