As per a notification issued by IRCTC, security features of its website irctc.co.in are in the process of being enhanced [PDF]. The website best known for railways ticket booking would be migrating to Transfer Layer Security (TLS) 1.2.
TLS 1.2 though doesn’t support older OS like Windows XP and Windows 2003, which is still being used by some users in the country. Hence, IRCTC has advised all the users to upgrade to higher OS.
The website will function normally on Operating Systems like Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. After the security is enhanced, it would be much safer to make online payments via debit, credit cards, net banking, mobile wallets and other mediums.
The website was overhauled about a year ago which made it more user friendly and also resulted in more number of transactions. IRCTC also introduced an Artificial Intelligence (AI) chat-bot called ‘Ask Disha’ (Digital Interaction to Seek Help Any Time) as a consumer-friendly initiative.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
