In a major boost for engineering aspirants with disabilities, an extra 20 minutes each hour will given to persons with disabilities (PWD) while appearing for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced, provided they have at least 40 per cent disabilities, reports The New Indian Express.
JEE Advanced is the second stage of the examination process which decides which aspirants are selected for admission into the prestigious Indiian Institutes of Technology (IITs). 2.45 lakh candidates who will clear JEE Main will get an opportunity to appear for JEE Advanced on 27 May.
Earlier, only those students who were taking the aid of scribes to write were given compensatory time. As the Centre has made several modifications in rules relating to admissions and jobs for PWD candidates, the same measures are now being extended to JEE.
As JEE Advanced consists of two papers of three hours each, students benefiting under the new move will essentially get two additional hours to write their papers.
However, if a candidates provides incorrect or misleading information about his physical disability, his or her admission may be later rescinded and the individual may even be charged with fraud.
