The Jharkhand police has arrested 16 individuals in connection with an attack on a pro-CAA rally in Lohardaga which has resulted in the death of artist and idol maker Neeraj Prajapati, News18 has reported.
Prajapati who was part of the pro-CAA rally was injured after being hit on his head by a rod. After managing to hide in a shop, Prajapati later returned home and lost consciousness. He was rushed to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries on Monday (27 January).
The cops have claimed that Prajapati died due to cardiac arrest caused by "a septic shock from brain stem bleed" and not via an external injury. Prajapati’s family members though have accused the cops of trying to cover up the issue.
Prajapati, an artist and idol maker by profession, came from a modest background and is survived by his young wife and two children. Seeing his family’s plight a campaign was started by OpIndia HIndi to crowdfund monetary help for his family and Rs 15 lakh were donated by concerned citizens in a single day.
