Several people, including policemen, were injured when stones were pelted on the Tiranga Yatra taken out by Hindu organisations in support of Citizenship (Amendment) Act(CCA) in Jharkhands Giridih district on Sunday (12 January), police said.
Thousands of people participated in the Tiranga Yatra in support of the CAA.
When the rallyists were returning, protesters belonging to a particular community started pelting stones at the supporters of the Tiranga Yatra at the Maulana Azad roundabout.
Several people were injured in the stone pelting, including five policemen. The members of both the Tiranga Yatra and from the opposing community pelted stones at each other. Police had to resort tear gas and lathicharge to disperse the mob.
Members of the Tiranga Yatra have demanded the arrest of people involved in stone throwing on their peaceful procession.
Heavy security has been deployed to control the situation.
According to police sources, they are keeping a close watch on some lawyers and social activists who are in the forefront of mobilising people against the CAA.
