On the occasion of Reliance Industries’ Annual General Meeting (AGM), Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of a power-packed affordable smartphone named ‘JioPhone Next’ that has been developed by Jio in collaboration by tech magnate Google.
JioPhone Next will become available in the markets from 10th September onward and is set to be the most economical smartphone worldwide.
The smartphone will have several innovative features that also include attributes like language translation and a voice assistant too. It will have a camera with enhanced reality filters and will also support the regular Android updates as well.
Excited to announce the next steps in our partnership with @RelianceJio to accelerate India's digitization, starting with a new affordable Jio smartphone with an optimized @Android experience, and a 5G collaboration between Jio & @GoogleCloud.https://t.co/Wi9DExPU6b

Jio will be utilizing the Google Cloud facility for 5G purposes, News18 reports.
“JioPhone Next is powered by an extremely optimised version of the Android operating system that has been jointly developed by Jio and Google, specially for the Indian market,” Ambani was quoted as saying in the AGM.
He added that around 300 million Indian mobile users continue to use the ‘inefficient’ and ‘exorbitant’ 2G services because of the apparent unaffordability of 4G smartphones. Through JioPhone Next, the company aims to provide a next-generation, rich in features yet economical smartphone to the Indian market.
The Sundar Pichai-led company had acquired 7.7 per cent stakes in Jio Platforms with an overall investment of Rs 33,737 crore in 2020.
