Karnataka Chief Minister (CM) BS Yediyurappa today (30 August) inaugurated the maiden “Roll On Roll Off” (RORO) train between the State capital of Bengaluru and Maharashtra's Solapur via video conferencing.
The maiden RORO train was flagged off with a capacity to carry 42 fully laden trucks onboard, carrying goods of sundry kinds. The train is expected to cover the total distance of 682 kilometres in 17 hours.
As per a report by Livemint, the RORO train would run through Dharmavaram, Guntakal, Raichur and Wadi to each Bale near Solapur, ensuring fast transport of essential goods, perishables, food items and smaller cargo at large scale.
The RORO train service will not only reduce the cost of transportation compared to road-based movement, but will also reduce pollution and accidents, and save fuel and foreign exchange.
As per the South Western Railway (SWR), under the RORO fashion, the drivers and cleaners of the trucks sit in their vehicles during the course of journey over the train, following which they are dropped at a particular point from which they drive the trucks off."

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
