BJP's Metroman E Sreedharan has lost Palakkad seat to Indian National Congress’ Shafi Parambhi defeated E Sreedharan by over 3000 votes. With this Parambhi has completed a hat-trick of wins in the Palakkad seat, reports Hindustan Times.
For the first time in 40 years, Kerala may break the cycle of voting out the incumbent party as initial trends indicate a victory for Pinarayi Vijayan led LDF government with the CPI-M led alliance securing a lead in 92 seats.
71 seats are needed for a party or an alliance to form the government in the Kerala assembly which consists of 140 constituencies.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
