A week-long impasse between the Arvind Kejriwal government and Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal came to an end after the latter approved the Delhi government’s flagship mohalla clinics project, directing it to strictly follow ‘certain safeguards to promote transparency’ in the functioning of these clinics.
L-G has asked the government to make sure that the selection of private premises is done through a transparent and objective mechanism. He has also directed the Kejriwal government to move to an online system within six months to monitor the functioning of these clinics.
L-G had met Kejriwal and members of his Cabinet on 31 August to resolve the issue of the mohalla clinic.
Around 43 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs had camped outside the L-G’s office before he approved the proposal, claiming that he was sitting over the files to hinder the process of opening more such clinics in their constituencies.
Delhi government is planning to build around 110 mohalla clinics in the city.
