The Tamil Nadu government on Monday (29 October) filed a review petition to re-look into Supreme Court’s judgement setting time limit on the bursting of firecrackers, News18 has reported.
The Supreme Court had ruled that crackers can only be burst between 8 pm to 10 pm during Diwali. The government contested saying that crackers should also be allowed between 4 am and 6 am.
Manufacturers in the firecracker manufacturing hub of Sivakasi have also said that they would file a review plea against the Court’s order allowing the use of only “green crackers”. They argue that there is no such thing called ‘green crackers’.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday (October 23) allowed the use of “ green crackers” while refusing to impose a complete ban on firecrackers. Crackers containing barium salt and producing a lot of noise would be banned according to its order.
The Court has also restricted the use of crackers during New Year’s Eve and Christmas Eve. The time slot between 11:45 pm and 12:45 am has been allotted for bursting crackers during these two days.
