Navi Mumbai’s City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has appointed the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) to manage the remaining construction and system engineering work of Navi Mumbai’s 11.10 km long Line-1, Metro Rail Guy reports.

The line plays host to 11 elevated stations and connects CBD Belapur to Pendhar.

The project has been marred with multiple delays ever since it kicked off in November 2011.

However, lack of government interest coupled with CIDCO and the contractors’ mismanagement has reportedly caused these long-drawn postponements. Moreover, deferrals in crucial approvals such as the ROBs over central railways’ line contributed to the current situation.

As per reports, CIDCO’s inexperience in handling complex engineering initiatives also led to the poor execution of the Line-1.

In contrast, MahaMetro is already handling the metro works in Pune, Nagpur and also the Metro Neo in Nashik and hence it is expected to finally superwise the completion of this route.

The 11 stations on this route are: CBD Belapur, Sector 7, CIDCO Science Park, Utsav Chowk (Khargar), Sector 11, Sector 14, Central Park, Pethpada, Sector 34, Panchanand and Pendhar.
