In welcome news for the Indian manufacturing sector, South Korean automobiles major Kia Motors plans to begin rolling out its Seltos SUVs from its Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh from 31 July, PTI has reported.
"Kia Motors will roll out the first car from its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Anantapur, in the state of Andhra Pradesh on July 31. With this, the company will begin the mass production of the Kia Seltos for the Indian market," the report quotes sources as saying.
Trial production of the Seltos had begun about six months ago and the plant is now ready for mass production. Kia had earlier put out a video of its Anantapur plant on social media.
Spread across 536 acres, the plant is capable of rolling out as many as 3 lakh vehicles per year. Kia has invested $1.1 billion in the plant as part of its total $2 billion investment in India.
Sentos is a BS-VI compliant vehicle and is scheduled to be launched in India on 22 August. Per-bookings for the vehicle have commenced online along with its 206 sale points in the country. It had received 6000 bookings on the first day pre-bookings were launched, buckling an overall slowdown in the Indian and global automobile sector.
