Unhappy over a lack of remuneration, priests at the Yamunotri temple in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand have put clothes over donation boxes to cover them, reports ANI.
"If we would have been receiving the salary or a percentage out of it (donation), then we will keep it open. We don't even receive one per cent out of this, that's why we have put a cloth on donation boxes," a priest stated.
SDM Barkot, Anurag Arya, said that adequate security personnel are present at the shrine and he is ordering for an FIR to be registered over the issue. He added that he is aware of photos and videos showing the covered donation boxes and that the authorities will proceed with immediate action in the matter.
Yamunotri is an important pilgrimage site fr Hindu devotees as it is the source from which the Yamuna river flows. The source of the Ganga, Gangotri, is also located in the same district of Uttarkashi.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
