In the latest sign of discontent within party ranks, a group of Congress leaders from the state have publicly come out with a demand that Jyotiraditya Scindia be made of the Madhya Pradesh unit of the party, threatening to resign en masse if said demand is not fulfilled, reports Times Now News.
The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president’s post remains vacant following the resignation of Chief Minister Kamal Nath from it. Even as Scindia was unable to win his home seat of Guna in the Lok Sabha elections this year, he continues to command a large following of supporters within the party.
“The party workers who have threatened to resign they have the right to put forward their thoughts within the party. Under the same rights, I would also like to say that Scindia ji should be made the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee chief by the high command. We request Sonia ji and Rahul ji to do the same. If this is not done, then I, along with other senior office bearers in the state, will tender our resignations,” a Congress leader stated.
As per News 18, even though Scindia has himself not come out with a public statement on the issue, reports have come out that he has issued an ultimatum to the party’s central leadership that he should be made the head of the state unit or else he may have to pursue other options, an indication that he himself may leave the party.
