Department of Tourism, Karnataka, has decided to develop three major lakes in Mysuru at a cost of Rs 6.26 crore. The decision comes after Minister for Tourism Sa Ra Mahesh visited Karanji, Kukkarahalli and Lingambudi lakes on Sunday (9 December).
Deccan Herald quoted Mahesh as saying, “A master plan has been prepared to develop three major waterbodies in the city. A committee headed by Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar has been constituted in this regard. In the first phase, the government will spend Rs 4.2 crore on Kukkarahalli Lake. The de-silting and other development works will be taken up.”
Furthermore, he said, “Likewise, the Karanji Lake will be developed at a cost of Rs 2.6 crore. The engineers have been directed to prepare a plan to repair feeder channels to fill the water from the Chamundi Hill. A butterfly park will also be developed on the Karanji lake premises,” Deccan Herald reported.
Since there lies an issue of sewage water being let into the lakes, he said that relevant measures will be adopted at the earliest to resolve the issue. Additionally, Saalumarada Thimmakka Park in Jayanagar’s Malalavadikere will be developed with amenities such as bird viewpoint, play area for children, toilets, drinking water facilities etc at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore.
