National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has approved Rs 65,635 crore for 93 irrigation projects under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayi Yojana (PMKSY), Press Trust of India has reported.
In total NABARD is funding 99 irrigation projects out of which 93 have been prioritised. Completion of these projects would provide water to 80 lakh hectares of agricultural land as per estimates.
“All financial support will be available for the projects. There is progress. The timely completion depends on state governments disbursement of their share of funds and union water resources ministry’s active role,” NABARD chairman H K Bhanwala told Financial Express.
He also added that 18 irrigation projects have been completed and nine are nearing completion. As per the report, Rs 23,402.72 crore has already been released for 86 projects.
Maximum number of projects under PMKSY are allocated in Uttar Pradesh. He said that allocation of the state share of irrigation projects takes time even if the centre’s share is already available. The NABARD chairman lauded the state government for allocating Rs 7,000 crore for irrigation projects.
