According to techARC DIGIT insights, Indians’ dependence on apps in smartphones is increasing with them using as much as 24 apps daily, reports Deccan Chronicle.
The average installed apps range from 51 to 207, indicating some people are is installing apps without understanding and thinking. This leads to smartphone draining, impacting performance and making phones vulnerable.
Thirty-eight per cent of Indians use 6-10 apps daily. In this, the maximum usage is on social media, with 76 per cent using it on a daily basis, followed by gaming at 70 per cent of users. The third category is financial apps that include banking and wallets with user confidence in their security leading to escalating usage.
OTT apps with Live TV and Video-on-Demand are gaining ground too, with 40 per cent of users watching content daily.
Estimates are that the telecom industry will benefit hugely from the use of gaming and entertainment apps. The potential of heavy data usage promises revenue once the competitiveness dies down, leading to subsidised data rates and apps.
