A lawyer shot dead the newly elected president of the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council Darvesh Singh Yadav at the district court in Agra, reports Hindustan Times. The said lawyer then shot himself in an attempt to commit suicide.
Agra City’s Additional Superintendent of Police Praveen Verma said that the shooter was Manish Sharma, who is believed to have been previously acquainted with Yadav.
“After spraying three bullets on her, Sharma also shot himself. He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and is in a critical condition,” he added.
The attack happened during a ceremony which was being conducted at the court in honour of Yadav. The body is currently undergoing a postmortem.
Yadav’s election to the post of president of the state bar council had occurred just two days ago, and she was the first woman to occupy the position.
